Detention & Retention Ponds in Kentucky
Stormwater detention basins, retention ponds, outlet structures and embankments for private developments and commercial sites.
Stormwater management that meets the plans
With growing demand for detention and retention ponds, Phillips Brothers' knowledge and experience in the field makes us an ideal choice. Whether it's a private development or a commercial application, we have the experience and equipment to build any design.
Pond construction relies on accurate earthwork and solid embankments. We've built detention basins for municipal drainage projects in Owensboro and constructed roughly 250,000 cubic yards of embankment for the Freeman Lake Reservoir Dam in Elizabethtown.
What's included
- Detention basin excavation and shaping
- Retention / wet pond construction
- Compacted embankments and berms
- Outlet control structures and spillways
- Inlet and outlet pipe
- Erosion control
- Seeding and stabilization
We build ponds as part of the full site package — earthwork, storm sewer and outlet structures — so the stormwater system works as one.
Common questions
What's the difference between a detention and retention pond?
A detention pond temporarily holds stormwater and releases it slowly, while a retention pond holds a permanent pool of water. We build both.
Can you build the outlet structures and storm pipe too?
Yes. We install the outlet control structures, spillways and connecting storm sewer as part of the pond package.
Do you build pond embankments and dams?
Yes — including roughly 250,000 cubic yards of embankment for the Freeman Lake Reservoir Dam.
